Strike It Hot!

The success of the general strike could help compensate for the increasing militarization of the Revolution in certain parts of the country, but protesters everywhere still demand international protection, through the imposition of a no-fly zone, the creation of safe havens and support to the Free Syrian Army.

14 protesters were killed in sweep operations carried out by Assad loyalist militias in the town of Talbisseh in Homs Province; 3 more, including a baby girl, were killed in Homs City, 2 in Ma’arrat Al-Nouman and 1 in Saraqib in Idlib Province, 1 in Douma Suburb in Damascus, 1 in Rastan in Homs Province, and 1 in Albou Kamal in Deir Ezzor Province. More sweep operations left 7 injured in Sanamein town in Deraa/Hauran Province.

Meanwhile, soldiers affiliated with the Free Syrian Army carried out an operation targeting a loyalist convoy on the Hama-Salamiyeh Road leaving 11 loyalists dead.

The country also witnessed a general strike that was widely observed in protest communities all through the country, even in some Damascene neighborhoods.

For his part, Assad met with Arab League delegation and received high praise for his “seriousness” about reform, as thousands of “supporters” fill Omayad Square in Damascus.

In Homs City, Khaldiyeh Neighborhood, protesters carried a large banner saying “a no-fly zone and a safe haven are legitimate demands to protect unarmed protesters” In Deir Baalbah a banner reads “whoever refused to demand international protection does not represent us”

In the town of Talbisseh in Homs Province, people took to the streets despite ongoing siege by loyalist militias and carried signs demanding a no-fly zone
