Pyrrhic Victories!

Contrary to proliferating media reports and statements by American officials, the momentum on the ground continues to shift away from Assad. For, while loyalist troops carry out sweep operations in Homs and Idlib, they are losing control of Aleppo, Hassakeh, Raqqah and Deraa. Meanwhile, the signs of an impending showdown in Damascus are there for all those willing to see.

Friday March 9, 2012 – The beginning of a week dedicated for showing solidarity with the Syria’s Kurdish population

Death toll: 77, mostly in Idlib and Homs.

12 worshippers were killed as they streamed out of Hanabilah Mosque in Bab Al-Sibaa Neighborhood, Homs City. In Ain Larouz Village, Idlib Province, pro-Asasd militias carried out house-to-house raids and executed 16 locals. 4 more were killed in the nearby village of Mozrah. 3 were killed in the town of Treimseh in Hama Province, and 3 defectors were executed in the local hospital in Sanamein, Deraa Province.

Several general and ranking officers have reportedly defected and are now in the city of Antakya, Turkey.

By Saturday, pro-Assad militias began launching attack on a new city, Idlib City

Op-Eds & Special Reports
“Another lesson from the Balkans: Nothing worked until the United States stepped in with its military power.”

Dear American Lawmakers,

Let me see if I got this right:

1)       An American citizen can be fair game for targeted-killing but known sponsors of terror networks who are not American citizens and are in fact avowed enemies of America, like, shall we say, the Assads, cannot?
2)      The Responsibility to Protect is applicable only when the challenge is relatively easy, but when the task is complex, it somehow loses relevance? In other words, it’s all right to intervene to stop a madman running loose in the neighborhood, but when there are armed gangs the responsibility to protect can be neglected and intervention is considered wrong, because things could turn messy?

Dear Leaders of the Free World,

On behalf of the Syrian people, let me thank you for your silent duplicity and duplicitous diplomacy.
